Pragmata Beginner Guide —15 Essential Tips 2026

Weapons, hacking basics, Shelter priority, and everything new players need to know.

15 Essential Tips

1

Upgrade the Grip Gun First

Weapons

The Grip Gun is your only infinite-durability weapon —it never breaks and auto-recharges. Even a small damage upgrade compounds over the whole game. Visit the Shelter Equipment Station after Chapter 1 and upgrade it immediately.

2

Always Hack Before Shooting

Combat

Direct shooting without Diana's hack is always inefficient. Hack first to expose weak points, then unload. This applies to almost every enemy —the damage multiplier from exposed weak points makes hacking the core loop, not optional.

3

Activate Every Escape Hatch You Find

Survival

Escape Hatches are NOT automatic checkpoints. You must have Diana hack each one (hold L1) to activate it. An unactivated hatch won't save you on death. Make activating hatches your first priority entering any new area.

4

Don't Ignore the Stasis Net

Weapons

Most players overlook the Stasis Net because it deals almost no damage. Huge mistake. Freezing 3 enemies while you hack a 4th, then Multi-Hacking the frozen group, is the single most efficient combat pattern in the game. Print it at the Shelter early.

5

Save Special Weapon Ammo for Bosses

Weapons

Special weapons permanently break when ammo runs out. Never burn Impact Blaster or Charge Piercer ammo on standard enemies you can hack-kill. Save at least 30% ammo before entering a boss room.

6

Check for Red Shields Before Hacking

Combat

Red Shield Bots are completely immune to Diana's hacking while their shield is active. Wasting Luna Filament on a shielded enemy is a common beginner trap. Always look for the red glow —shoot the shield down first.

7

Talk to Cabin After Every Chapter

Exploration

Cabin (the friendly support robot in your Shelter) gives new hints after each chapter —including locations of hidden Lunafilament clusters and upgrade terminals. Don't skip these conversations; the map markers disappear if you progress past the chapter.

8

Manage Your Luna Filament Gauge

Hacking

At 0—5% Luna Filament, Diana can only use basic hacks. At 26—5%, you unlock targeting and traps. At 76—00%, the Overdrive Protocol becomes available. Keep the gauge above 50% before entering combat encounters —collect Lunafilament nodes on the ground (yellow items).

9

Use Overdrive Protocol on Boss Weak Phases

Hacking

Don't waste Overdrive Protocol (R3+L3) on random enemies. Save it for boss phases where weak points are exposed —the 8-second window of auto-exposed weak points + full-arena stun is worth 3x— normal damage output on a boss.

10

Print the Multihack Node Early

Shelter

The Multihack Node (printable at Shelter after Chapter 2) lets Diana hack multiple enemies simultaneously. It transforms group combat from chaotic to methodical. This is the single highest-priority Shelter print in the first half of the game.

11

Explore Before Progressing —Chapters 4— Are Points of No Return

Story

Several collectibles and achievements become permanently missable once you enter Chapter 4 and 5. Fully explore each chapter before triggering the next objective. The map marks unexplored areas —clear them all.

12

Use the Decoy Generator During Long Hack Sequences

Combat

When Diana starts a long hack chain (especially against boss-tier enemies), enemies will rush her. Deploy the Decoy Generator between Diana and incoming enemies —they'll target the hologram while Diana completes the hack safely.

13

Perfect Dodge Unlocks Witch Time

Combat

Hugh's dodge, when timed perfectly, triggers a brief bullet-time slowdown (Witch Time). This is a permanent passive unlock via Shelter upgrades. Upgrade it as soon as it's available —perfect dodge timing becomes the most skill-expressive mechanic in the game.

14

Scan Enemies Before Fighting New Types

Exploration

Diana's scan (R1) reveals enemy type, armor weakness, and hack difficulty before you engage. Against a new enemy type, always scan first —Red Shield Bots, Filament Crawlers, and Anomaly-Class enemies all require specific approaches that scanning reveals.

15

Don't Sell or Discard Blueprints

Shelter

Every blueprint you find permanently unlocks that item for printing at the Shelter. You cannot rebuy or refind a blueprint once discarded. Keep all blueprints —even for weapons that seem weak now, as upgrades can change their tier completely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Pragmata hard for beginners?

Pragmata is moderately challenging on Standard difficulty. The learning curve comes from the hack-then-shoot combat loop —players who treat it as a pure shooter will struggle. Once you internalize "hack first, shoot weak points," the game becomes much more manageable.

How long does it take to learn Pragmata controls?

Most players feel comfortable with the core controls after 1-2 hours. The hacking system (Diana's grid navigation) takes a full chapter to get smooth. By Chapter 2, the Hugh+Diana synergy should feel natural.

What is the best starting strategy in Pragmata?

Chapter 1 priority: (1) Activate every Escape Hatch. (2) Talk to Cabin. (3) Upgrade the Grip Gun. (4) Print the Stasis Net blueprint. (5) Learn the red-shield rule before Chapter 2.

Can you change difficulty in Pragmata mid-game?

Yes, Pragmata allows difficulty changes at any Shelter save point. However, switching to Assist Mode mid-run will disable some combat achievements for that save file. Hard mode can be enabled or disabled freely without penalty.
